Exercise Description
The Pull-Up is a classic compound bodyweight exercise that develops upper-body strength, muscle mass, and pulling power. How to Perform Correctly
Setup
Grasp a pull-up bar with an overhand grip slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
Hang from the bar with your arms fully extended.
Engage your core and keep your legs slightly in front of your body or crossed behind you.
Pull your shoulders down and back before initiating the movement.
Maintain a neutral head and neck position.
Movement
Pull your body upward by driving your elbows down toward your sides.
Focus on pulling with your back muscles rather than your arms.
Continue until your chin clears the bar.
Pause briefly at the top position.
Lower yourself slowly and under control until your arms are fully extended.
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Using Excessive Swinging or Kipping
Momentum reduces muscle activation and shifts emphasis away from strength development.
Incomplete Range of Motion
Avoid partial repetitions by fully extending the arms at the bottom and reaching the top position.
Shrugging the Shoulders
Keep the shoulders down and away from the ears throughout the exercise.
Pulling with the Arms Only
Focus on driving the elbows down and engaging the lats.
Arching the Lower Back Excessively
Maintain core tension to keep the body stable.
Looking Up Excessively
Keep the neck neutral to avoid unnecessary strain.
Rushing the Descent
