Exercise Description

The Standing Banded Incline Fly is an isolation chest exercise performed with resistance bands anchored below chest level. How to Perform Correctly

Setup

  1. Secure resistance bands to a stable anchor point below chest level.

  2. Stand facing away from the anchor point and hold one handle in each hand.

  3. Step forward until the bands are under tension.

  4. Position your feet shoulder-width apart or in a staggered stance.

  5. Hold your arms slightly behind your torso with a slight bend in the elbows.

  6. Engage your core, lift your chest, and maintain an upright posture.

Movement

  1. Bring your hands upward and inward in a wide arc.

  2. Finish with your hands meeting or nearly meeting in front of your upper chest or shoulder level.

  3. Squeeze your upper chest at the top of the movement.

  4. Slowly return to the starting position while maintaining control and tension in the bands.

  5. Keep a slight bend in the elbows throughout the exercise.

  6. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Using Too Much Resistance

  • Excessive tension can reduce range of motion and compromise exercise technique.

Bending the Elbows Excessively

  • Turning the movement into a pressing exercise reduces chest isolation.

Locking the Elbows

  • Fully straight arms can place unnecessary stress on the elbow joints.

Allowing the Shoulders to Roll Forward

  • Keep the chest lifted and shoulders stable throughout the movement.

Using Momentum

  • Swinging the arms or torso reduces muscle activation and control.

Leaning Back Excessively

  • Maintain a stable, upright posture and avoid using body weight to assist the lift.
